Feminist Friday #13

Heyooo my lovers of social justice and equality! Just a few things for you today-this week was the craziest yet at work and I have been working hustling and bustling all along. So it goes, eh?

-The Huffington Post put together a list of the 50 Most Powerful Women over 50 who are inspiring and work in media, business, politics, and more. It’s a pretty awesome list. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/17/powerful-women-over-50_n_1674427.html

-As you probably heard, the new CEO of Yahoo was announced and it just so happened to be 37 years old, 6 months pregnant Marissa Mayer. I love the idea that her pregnancy was seemingly no impediment at all for Yahoo picking her (even though Yahoo as a business is pretty much screwed). http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-07-16/yahoo-says-google-s-marissa-mayer-to-be-chief-executive-officer.html

-The Taliban publicly executed a woman in Aghanistan. She was accused of adultery. I have no commentary for this. Why is this still happening. http://msmagazine.com/blog/blog/2012/07/10/taliban-publicly-executes-woman-accused-of-adultery/

-I’m not a huge comic book gal myself, but I thought this article about Comic Con-and the 40% of its attendees who are women-was interesting. It seems that even though nearly half of the fans attending the big event are women, the majority of programming consists of panels where the ratio of men to women is 5:1. Whoa. http://msmagazine.com/blog/blog/2012/07/18/women-attend-comic-con-but-dont-run-the-show/
