Without a doubt, one of my favorite events in Brighton is the huge annual spectacle that is Pride. Brighton is a very diverse city with a thriving gay community (gay capital of Europe, what what!), and therefore Pride isn’t just a marginal event that some take part in-the whole damn town is revved up for it! The parade is always amazing, with tons of local businesses and corporations sponsoring floats (and I’m talking big corps too, like Tesco and EDF). There’s loads of dancing in the streets. The vibes are just so joyful and fun and it is a heck of a day for people watching and sharing the love.
We met up with our friend Jess to watch the parade, and afterwards we grabbed some lunch at Street Diner and eventually settled down for an afternoon at The Eagle. We couldn’t have possibly picked a better place-a brass heavy band set up on the street, we had one of the coveted tables in the sun, and there were a plethora of cute dogs around (including a 6 month old pug named Bingo….I KNOW). Basically a street party broke out, complete with dancing. And it was great!
Beyonce is that you….? Oh wait, no. Nope.
Eventually the birthday boy came and joined us….
and the party grew in number and moved to Las Iguanas for many many pitchers of fruity cocktails. After awhile Jon and I decided it was far too long to have gone without-and we needed dinner!-and that turned into calling it quits on a long day of too much fun (along with an annoying, packed-full-o-drunks train ride back home, but that is neither here nor there). I imagine that Brighton today is chock full of hungover individuals in fabulous outfits. Jon and I have been laying low, with another long work week starting tomorrow. Boo. Well. At least Pride was fun!
