My friend Ariel stayed over the weekend, coming down from London to warm the house with us. This meant that on Sunday, besides going out with Jon’s family to celebrate Mother’s Day (a whole two months earlier than in the US, meaning I 1) always forget it’s happening here, and 2) am completely unable to buy mother’s day cards at the appropriate time to send to America for American mother’s day) we also had the chance to show her the best parts of Shoreham before she got back on the train to the even bigger city that is London town.
We went for a swim/hot tub/sauna combo at our complex’s gym. The perfect cure for those who have imbibed, just a little too much, or even haven’t imbibed at all but just want a relaxing bit of healthy bougie afternoon activities! It’s small, but perfect. Then we went for a walk on the beach, checking out the lowest tide I have ever seen here to date, making Shoreham veritably sandy and real-not rocky-beach like. Amazing! Finally, we ordered a curry and watched a movie before Rel made her way back to the station for the slow Sunday evening service back up to London.
I realized over the weekend that at one point during our housewarming, we had 5 Americans in this apartment. More than have ever been here before, and more than are likely to ever be here again, all in one go. Ariel is one of those Americans-we met back at OSU and both eventually moved over here, and man-I do love having her around! Life is weird. But anyway, 5 Americans in one house! And I knew all of them, but only two of them knew each other. Also, Ariel was wearing a dress on Sunday that I also own, which we both bought at Target, in Ohio, a million years ago. Fun. Well done Universe. Your timing is impeccable.
