America thoughts

Time to get a little something off my chest…(who am I kidding, I already ranted at the boyfriend for an hour via skype today about this very topic). Voting is important. It’s a civic duty-cliche yes, but true. The reason our electorate is set up as it is is so that as many people as possible can have their voices heard. And yet, voter turnout has been on the decline since the 1960s. I just can’t understand that. It seems like there is no shortage of people who complain about the (mostly) dudes in Washington who can’t seem to do anything right, and yet, how many of them are going out to vote at every election? Really, how many?

If you don’t like what’s being done, go vote. If you do like what’s being done, go vote. But stop complaining if you put no effort whatsoever into changing the status quo, because there are any number of people around the world who wish they had the chance to do what we do in November.Go out and vote!

Now back to biting my nails and watching these results roll in.

  1. Hah! Cath and her bf had the same conversation via skype (she/we voted, he didn’t). I still get excited walking up to the voter machine, and here in Atlanta we get a Georgia Peach sticker once we’re done. Who wouldn’t want to vote for that alone?!
